Less than ten kilometres from the Grand Place in the centre of Brussels, the Forêt de Soignes is one of the most beautiful and largest suburban forests in Europe. Although two-thirds of its trees were cut down in the 19th century, it still covers almost 5,000 hectares to the east and south of the city.
